Tools and supplies are still being added and updated as we replenish the stock. We'll continue to focus on the most essential items and add some of the items that are more of an optional or 'personal choice' nature as time progresses.
Notions are still something we have to determine with regards as to what we'll put on the site. Some items that we carry in the store can quite easily be found practically everywhere, so whenever possible we try to be a bit more selective with these. Thread won't be sold through the site, accurate color representation is difficult enough for the fabric and trying to match thread for a project over the web just makes me cringe. It may be possible in the future to order thread if you know the exact color code for a spool that you have now, but this is something for a future day. Buttons, zippers, fasteners, ribbons, bias trims etc... we do stock them but again with so many options out there it's a huge task to get it done right.
Which brings me to the most pressing task before me, the patterns we carry.
As far as the patterns go, we have the majority of them up in terms of companies or designers, but in terms of actual number of patterns, we're only about a quarter of the way there. The Decades of Style patterns won't be put on the site. We have so much respect for Janet and the really amazing and hard work she puts into her business, that we don't want to compete with her in terms of online sales. Some of our local customers who might want a specific pattern can inquire about getting it with an order, but really if it's just a great vintage pattern that you need, please go over to www.decadesofstyle.com. and get them from there.
Which leaves the biggest group left then, the Kwik Sew patterns and we have honestly just under 300 different patterns here. I know that some of you are looking for them, as I can see by looking through the 'search logs'.
Listing the patterns is a bit challenging as I want to provide as much information without cluttering the page up so much that you can't get the really important information easily. So my questions to you are, 'What's the most important information you need when choosing a pattern? Which criteria influence your decision more than others? Should we list every detail explicitly or does a range of information work for you? (ie fabric = 1-1/2 to 2 yards for all sizes vs. Sm= 1-1/2 yds, Med.= 1-3/4 yds, Lrg= 2 yds) How annoying is it if we include most of the information as an image instead of listing it all as text? Do you require finished sizes & dimensions, or are these less important details? Should we include all the necessary materials in the listing, or just those that can be purchased with your order?
Please leave a comment below if you'd like, either about the above pattern questions or anything else you'd like to see offered on our site. Any other improvements you'd like to see or other suggestions are always very much appreciated. If you'd prefer to email me direct instead of having a comment for others to see, please use this link to our 'contact page'. You could also include 'Do Not Post' in a comment, and I'll be able to read it without having it shown on the page.
Here's the list of Kwik Sew patterns we carry now, and this will be increasing as the seasons continue. Feel free to contact us if there's a pattern you'd like to purchase if I haven't gotten it in the cart pages yet:
